Oglio Park

Oglio Park

Description

The Oglio Nord Park is a fluvial park in the Lombardy region that develops along the route of the Oglio river, extending for 14,170 hectares.

Within the Park are some greatly interesting nature reserves of both naturalistic and environmental value.

It is a purely agricultural territory and along the river path there are steep and wooded banks. The inhabitants of the forest are large trees such as maple, chestnut, poplar, willow, locust and on them, climbing ivy. Venturing along the park’s paths it is easy to spot hedgehogs, hares and other small animals. With a little luck, you can also come across rarer animals such as weasels, foxes or badgers. The numerous stretches of water are rich with vegetation and many species of fish. Looking up at the sky you can see herons flying, crows, swallows and many others.

Along the shore are white roads where you can walk, cycle or horse ride.

A large necropolis from the Gallic period (II-I century BC) was recently discovered between Cividino and Pontoglio and there are numerous and important historical architectural sites present. Above all, the Pumenengo Castle, whose peculiarity is the trapezoidal structure with three towers (only two remained intact and we can still see them today), built to defend the territory in a strategic position for the control of the Naviglio Pallavicino and of the Oglio River.
