Via Arena

Via Arena

Description

The name of this street comes from a Roman amphitheatre once located in the western part of the town.
One of the oldest streets in the town, it has, on one side, the high and severe wall of the Monastero Benedettino di S. Grata, with the Baroque portal of its church, built starting from 1591 according to a plan by Pietro Ragnolo. On the opposite side of the street is the impressive Palazzo della Misericordia, which now houses the Museo Donizettiano.
