The Consorzio della Misericordia, a charitable institution founded in 1265, completed this important Baroque building in 1664.
A staircase with two ramps leads to the first floor, which now houses the Museo Donizettiano. Besides being the seat of the Consorzio, the Palace first hosted the Collegio Mariano, which was the most important school in Bergamo before Napoleon’s rule and, from 1908, the Civico Istituto Musicale Gaetano Donizetti.
