Description

Built by the Suardi family in the mid-14th century, it was later owned by the Consorzio della Misericordia and the Avogadro family. From 1428 to 1797 it was the seat of the Podestà (Governor) of Bergamo, the highest authority of the Venetian Republic in town.
In 1477 the façade was decorated with frescoes by Donato Bramante and the few fragments that still remain are housed in the Salone of the Palazzo della Ragione. The Palazzo del Podestà has undergone several restorations over time and has had many different functions.
