The Bergamo-Brescia Cultural Ciclovia is also designed to be traveled by people with reduced mobility: the route is divided into 4 stages of about 20 km each, for a total of about 80 km, along the way there are some accommodations and restaurants equipped with folding wheelchairs to facilitate transfers from the handbike to the interior of the facility.
Inclusive design criteria were adopted: adequate path width, slope limitation, uniformity of funds, separation from automobile flows, and connections to terrain discontinuities.
Along the route, many restaurants and points of interest have been checked for their degree of accessibility, and some are found to be fully accessible.
A rental service of handbikes, tandems and electric wheelchair thrusters is provided, with the possibility of assistance and transfer of equipment.
The Via delle Sorelle is a 130-kilometer route that connects Bergamo and Brescia, passing through natural landscapes, villages and cities of art. Thanks to the S.T.A.I.(Services for Accessible and Inclusive Tourism) project, two accessible loops, one in Bergamo and one in Brescia, have been created along the route, designed to encourage use by people with disabilities as well.
The stretches, surrounded by greenery and enriched by permanent works of art, have been made safer and more inclusive thanks to targeted interventions on paths, inclines and signage, without altering the naturalistic balance of the places.
These are experiences that combine nature, landscape and culture, making the walk welcoming for all.
