MEDIOEVO RITROVATO

MEDIOEVO RITROVATO

Description

From convent to prison, from prison to school, from school to museum. The Convent of San Francesco has always been a place of endless stories and transformations to discover and experience through the extraordinary photographic exhibition of the years 1937-1938.

The photographs of "Medioevo Ritrovato" document the restoration works of the complex by the engineer Cesare Selvelli (1874-1967), mostly dating back to the biennium 1937-38. The exhibition will guide you through the places of the convent during the times when it was a prison, elementary school, convent, and now, a museum. But that's not all!

It's a real exhibition within the exhibition: for the first time, the photographic journey also plays the role of a guide to discover the cycle of frescoes of the ancient church, created between the 14th and 18th centuries in different phases of the convent's life and brought to life by Engineer Selvelli’s restorations works.

From the lateral nave to the Bonghi chapel to the Cloister of the Arches, passing through the apsidiole and the Chapter House... all that's left is for you to immerse yourself in the heart of this precious intertwining of places, stories, architecture, and photographs.
