This time, “I colori dell’aria,” the traveling concert project conceived three years ago by Alessandro Bottelli to highlight—through instrumental pieces created specifically for the occasion by professional composers—the region’s lesser-known artistic and cultural heritage, offering the public the chance to appreciate, in a completely different light—that of the language of sound —works of remarkable craftsmanship and iconographic value, including those by anonymous artists and, in most cases, relegated to the margins of major tourist routes—is making a stop in Albano Sant’Alessandro (Bergamo), at the Parish Church of Saints Cornelius and Cyprian. It is here, in fact, that on Friday, November 13 (8:45 p.m.), the Vagues Saxophone Quartet (Andrea Mocci on soprano sax, Francesco Ronzio on alto sax, Mattia Quirico on tenor saxophone, and Vincent Dupuy on baritone saxophone), an ensemble of young and acclaimed professionals who have already received numerous accolades (including the special prize at the “Luigi Nono” International Competition in 2016, first prize at the “Cosima Wagner” International Competition for Concert Performers in Bellagio and at the “C. M. Giulini” International Competition for Soloists and Chamber Ensembles in Bolzano in 2022), as well as appearances at major festivals and events (Milano Musica, Società del Quartetto, and the Festival 5 Giornate in Milan), and the release of a CD on the Da Vinci label. The ensemble, known for its lively and active involvement in the creation of new works, often works closely with composers. And for this occasion, in addition to performing works by George Frideric Handel, Gioachino Rossini, Johannes Brahms, George Gershwin, and Sting, the ensemble will also take on *Attollite portas*, a very recent work for four saxophones commissioned from the Bergamo-based composer, organist, and choir director Davide Mutti and inspired by the bronze portal at the building’s entrance, the work of sculptor Egidio Sartori (1942–2020). Mutti writes in the introduction to the piece: “The countless inspirations drawn from Sartori’s bronze portal have shaped a composition divided into five sections linked by the same musical theme, which translates the work into sound by interpreting it in an ascending manner, in the style of a modern suite.”
