The Orobie

Bergamo low, high or…very high! Enjoy the mountain half of the province, a paradise for mountaineering, hiking or quiet food and wine tours

An arc 80 km wide, dotted with peaks, ridges, wooded slopes, pastures and valleys, farmsteads, hamlets and refuges. All encompassed by peaks touching as high as 3,000 meters, such as the Coca group, Redorta and Scais.

This is the great heritage of the province of Bergamo: the mountains, which have always been part of local history and culture. The Bergamo Alps – also known as the Orobie – cover half of the provincial territory, stretching out to enclose four valleys: the Imagna, the Brembana, the Seriana and the contiguous Val di Scalve. An area of significant environmental and naturalistic value, much of it included in the Orobie Bergamasche Park.

Today, a dense network of trails makes it possible to reach all the peaks of the Orobian Alps.
As you push into the heart of the range and toward the highest peaks, the environment becomes rugged and wild, populated by ibexes and chamois and where it is easy to glimpse the majestic flight of the eagle. And then there is she, the Queen: Presolana, the most famous and beloved mountain in the Orobie.

What are you waiting for? Come and discover them with us!

The Imagna Valley

A border valley, it now maintains a rural appearance and unspoiled nature: come and discover its charm!

Side valley in the shadow of Resegone, the Imagna Valley with its beautiful deep green vegetation.

Rich in water and history this small valley combines nature and respect for the environment. Throughout the centuries the valley formed the border with the Duchy of Milan and its most extreme village: Arnosto, a tiny 17th-century settlement still intact, was the ancient seat of customs between Venice and Milan; in fact, a Venetian garrison resided there from 1428 to 1797.

Val Brembana

Closed-looking but rich in insights: open the Brembana Valley to discover its many green trails and fascinating historic villages

Val Brembana is one of the two major valleys. It owes its name to the Brembo River, which flows through it and has influenced its history and development.
In addition to historic urban centers such as San Pellegrino Terme and the villages of Oneta (home of Harlequin) and Cornello dei Tasso (where the European postal system originated), it offers naturalistic resources such as the striking Orrido della Val Parina and several side valleys: Valle di Olmo, Val Taleggio, Val Brembilla and Val Serina.

An ideal destination for hiking and, in winter, popular for winter sports, the valley offers you about 80 km of slopes. On the Orobie slopes you can have fun and test yourself whatever your level.
The best-known resorts are Foppolo, Carona, Piazzatorre and Valtorta – Piani di Bobbio.

Lover of trekking? Here’s the Western Orobie Trail, to be hiked in five days, staying overnight at refuges along the way.

Seriana and Scalve Valleys

Two valleys, multiple attractions: juicy history, sweet resort towns and rugged Orobic peaks. The choice is yours!

The Seriana Valley runs along the course of the Serio River, over an area extending northeast of the city to the Clusone plateau. Two detours of considerable scenic interest break away from the course of the Serio, that of Selvino and Aviatico and that of Pradalunga and the Lujo Valley.
The upper valley is nestled in the mountains of the Orobie Orientali Regional Park. It offers interesting nature trails including the Orobie trail and renowned ski resorts: Presolana, Monte Pora, Lizzola and Spiazzi di Gromo.
The majestic Serio waterfalls await you inValbondione, with a triple drop of more than 300 meters visible five times each year during summer openings.

Val di Scalve, accessible from Seriana via the Presolana Pass or from Val Camonica, offers a beautiful, still unspoiled alpine environment. Surrounded by mountains and crossed by the Dezzo stream, it is an ideal destination for outdoor sports and those who love nature trails.
You can go trekking along the mountain trails while, for winter, you’ll have 25 km of trails on which to have fun, including cross-country trails thanks to the 4 loops of the Schilpario pine forest, in 2025 the site of the World Youth Championships.
Then don’t miss the Via Mala, the road that connects to Val Camonica. It was carved into the rock of a gorge with very tight walls, over whose bed flows the rushing Dezzo.
The best-known resorts are Colere for downhill skiing, Schilpario for Nordic skiing, Vilminore di Scalve and Azzone.
