The “Tactile Values” project was launched in 2018 with the goal of enabling visitors to experience the museum’s works through the sense of touch. After an experimental phase focused on sculptures from the Federico Zeri collection, the initiative was expanded in 2023 to include various types of objects, including sculptures, medals, and paintings.

Thanks to the PNRR call for proposals aimed at removing physical, cognitive, and sensory barriers in museums and private cultural sites, the initiative has become a model for broadening access to the museum across the board. The project aims to provide useful tools and materials for people with disabilities and health vulnerabilities, but it is also geared toward the general public who wish to discover the Accademia Carrara’s heritage from different perspectives.

Features of the tours

The central element of “Tactile Values” is the tours led by blind individuals. Each month, specially trained blind and visually impaired guides lead tactile tours that are open to both blind adults and sighted people, allowing them to explore the museum’s collections from new perspectives.
