A tactile and sensory tour of an artist’s studio: Gianni Grimaldi. Scheduled for both Saturday, the 24th, and Sunday, the 25th.
A tactile and sensory tour inside an artist’s home-studio: Gianni Grimaldi, a sculptor who has given form to human metamorphoses.
This year, for the first time, a plaster cast gallery will be open to the public, featuring plaster casts and sketches of works by artist Gianni Grimaldi.
Now in its ninth edition, “L’Officina della Scultura” is a project that opens the studios of some of the leading figures in 20th-century Italian sculpture to the public. Through guided tours and workshops designed for schools, universities, families, and vulnerable audiences, the project aims to promote understanding of sculpture, its forms of expression, and its creative processes. Stepping into these studios offers a firsthand look at the technical and artistic journey that leads to the creation of a work of art.
Getting an up-close look at the creative spaces of artists active throughout the 20th century allows visitors of all ages to gain an engaging and lively understanding of the many technical processes devised and employed. By tracing the path from the technical process to the finished work—in a manner that reverses the conventional museum approach—visitors are guided from the practical and tangible to the conceptual and poetic.
The sense of touch—and, more broadly, the multisensory exploration of tools, raw materials, and finished works—accompanied by the guidance of specialized educators or the artists’ own words, makes a visit to the studios a unique experience.
