Sguaraunda was born from the passion of its two founders, Massimo and Roberto.
In the 1990s, they began experimenting together with a small pilot brewing system, which led to the creation of their first three recipes under the name Birra LaBergamasca: Bionda, Rossa and Weiss. Their aim was to introduce the average consumer to the world of craft beer by offering styles that were already familiar on Italian tables.
Following the success of these beers, the first production facility opened in Pagazzano in 2003, equipped with a 250-litre BrauMaster system. Around ten years later, the system was expanded to 10 hl and production grew to more than ten different styles, driven by the search for new craft beer flavours to bring to the market.
2017 was a very difficult year due to the loss of Roberto, craft brewer and co-founder, after he had fought a serious illness to the very end. During this difficult period, however, he managed to pass on his valuable craft to Massimo’s nephew, “Sami”. With Sami, a new chapter in the brewery’s history began, marking the start of a new generation.
A beer was dedicated to Roberto, the *Murator*: a beer with a bold yet sweet character, a little like the people of Bergamo, who beneath the cold ashes hide glowing, warm embers.
Today, the brewery is led by Pierre, a brewer of French origin with extensive experience in the sector. Pierre is determined to carry the company forward with enthusiasm and innovation, opening up new horizons in beer production.
