The Abbey of Sant’Egidio in Fontanella is located at the foot of Monte Canto, in the municipality of Sotto il Monte, in the Province of Bergamo. The building, an example of Romanesque architecture, was founded in the 11th century by Alberto da Prezzate and is an important site of historical and artistic interest in the area.

The tour includes a visit to the abbey church and its portal, which features medieval frescoes. Some of the paintings are attributed to the Baschenis family, who were active in the field of religious art in Bergamo. The tour traces the complex’s history, from its medieval founding to its revival in the 20th century under the influence of Father David Maria Turoldo, a theologian and poet.

The surrounding area includes notable features such as two outdoor burial sites linked to ancient local legends. The natural setting is characterized by woods and vineyards that surround the structure.
