On the occasion of the 550th anniversary of the consecration of the Church of the Incoronata, a guided tour is scheduled to discover the treasure chest of art and spirituality commissioned by Bartolomeo Colleoni.
A fascinating guided tour of the Martinengo Convent, a treasure trove of art and spirituality commissioned by Bartolomeo Colleoni and completed in 1475 at the desire of the local population.
The tour begins inside the church, entirely frescoed over the centuries by important masters of Lombard painting. You will see the four side chapels, each with altars carved by the Caniana family, and the extraordinary partition by Pietro Baschenis (1623-1627), a masterpiece of religious painting. The tour will continue with frescoes by artists such as the Master of Martinengo, the Poloni brothers, Sergio Fasolini, and the influences of the Bembezi school.
From here, the path continues to the once fully frescoed cloister, which still preserves three very rare 18th-century reflection sundials. According to legend, it is in the very cloister that one of the very few portraits of Thisbe da Martinengo, wife of Colleoni, an enigmatic figure linked to the founding of the monasteries, would be found.
During the visit, there will also be an opportunity to explore the ancient sacristy, which is rich in historical and artistic details, and the ancient refectory, which will transport one back in time to fully immerse oneself in the monastic life of the past.
