Through November 15, “Inmostra”—a project by artist Queen Elena that focuses on women and intertwines them with places, gestures, and atmospheres associated with food and wine—will be on view at Lalimentari, a historic venue in Piazza Vecchia.
As part of “I Maestri del Paesaggio – Landscape Festival,” a new exhibition is coming to the Lalimentari space in Città Alta, on Piazza Vecchia in Bergamo: “Inmostra,” on view through November 15 at the historic venue on Piazza Vecchia. This project places women at the center, weaving them into the places, gestures, and atmospheres associated with food and wine, in a natural dialogue with the restaurant’s surroundings. These women are vivid, recognizable figures—never merely decorative.
The protagonist is an artist who has been painting for many years. She goes by the name Queen Elena—an ironic and irreverent name, just like her art. Her legal name is Elena Ceruti, born in 1968; she is an entrepreneur in the world of image and communication and the founder of Mister Plastic in Bergamo.
There are about twenty works on display, each accompanied by a title that serves as the beginning of a short story, told primarily through deep grays and sudden bursts of red. “Cherry on Top,” “Throne,” “Shoes in the Cool,” “Bon Ton,” “Everyday Luxury,” “Silence”—these are some of the titles of the works featuring food and wine, held in the hands of a woman who, at a restaurant, knows how to carve out the silence she needs to read a book, savor a fine glass of wine, and treat herself to a moment all her own. There are red shoes, gloves resting on the table, bodies almost suspended in mid-air, immersed in the everyday nature of a gesture.
The exhibition will also have a charitable component: a charity auction is scheduled for October 29, during which some of the works will be auctioned off, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to an organization dedicated to supporting women.
