The name Il Calepino reflects both the cultural heritage and the winemaking tradition of the Valcalepio hills. The vineyards extend across glacial moraine terraces known locally as Surúe, where well-drained soils provide ideal conditions for producing grapes with excellent ripeness and wines of remarkable complexity and aromatic intensity.
Founded in 1972, the winery has specialised in traditional method sparkling wines since 1978. It remains closely connected to the legacy of Fra Ambrogio Calepino, the sixteenth-century scholar who compiled the first Latin dictionary, later published as the famous multilingual Calepinus. Today, the winery produces a complete range of Valcalepio DOC, Bergamasca IGT and VSQ wines, all widely appreciated for their outstanding quality.
