The guided tour of the village of Gromo allows you to explore one of the best-preserved medieval towns in the Lombard Alps. The town, located in the Province of Bergamo, is listed among Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages and has been awarded the Orange Flag by the Italian Touring Club.

The tour includes a stop at the Church of Saints James and Vincent, a 12th-century Romanesque building featuring an interior with medieval frescoes and Baroque decorations. The tour continues toward the historic center to see the Art Nouveau villas built in the early 20th century, residences that bear witness to the town’s heyday.

The Historic Center and Architecture

As you stroll along the cobblestone streets, you can admire Bergamo’s traditional architecture, characterized by exposed stone and wooden balconies. From the hilltop viewpoint, you can see the valley and the three castles that historically served as strategic strongholds guarding the access routes to the mountain passes.

Palazzo Milesi and the Museum of Bladed Weapons

The tour ends at Palazzo Milesi, home to City Hall and the Museum of Bladed Weapons and Parchments. The building houses a collection of swords, daggers, foils, and halberds, a testament to the ancient local industry that made Gromo a center of weapons production renowned throughout Europe, so much so that it was called “Little Toledo.” The museum also features frescoes illustrating the commercial activities of the past.
