The photography exhibition by Francesco Jodice, curated by Corrado Benigni, explores the social and geopolitical landscape through contemporary photography.
The MIA Foundation presents an exhibition in Astino dedicated to the work of Francesco Jodice, an artist who offers a political interpretation of the landscape on a global scale. The exhibition is part of an ongoing initiative aimed at exploring the theme of landscape, shifting the focus from the masters of Italian photography of the past thirty years to the new generations of internationally recognized artists.
The artist, born in Naples in 196 p 67 and based in Milan, uses his work to explore the changes in the contemporary social landscape, with a particular focus on phenomena in urban anthropology and processes of participation. Jodice’s work seeks to build common ground between art and geopolitics, presenting artistic practice as a form of civic poetics.
The exhibition, designed for the spaces of the Astino Monastery, focuses on research conducted in Italy to analyze the transformations that are altering our perception of inhabited places and the evolution of our perspective toward a world that can no longer be understood from a single point of view.
The site-specific artwork
For the occasion, the artist created a site-specific work based on the project “The Room,” conceived specifically for the monastery’s spaces. The work uses pages from the daily newspaper “L’Eco di Bergamo” partially covered in paint, where suspended words and phrases offer a different representation of the Italian cultural landscape.
