Embedded in the Belviso-Barbellino nature reserve, it is the starting point for numerous hikes.
In the heart of the Orobie Mountains, in an area rich in artificial and natural lakes, the Curò is certainly one of the most popular refuges in our mountains.
A favorite destination for mountaineers interested in rock climbing, it is a key junction on the Sentiero delle Orobie trail: from here you can continue on the high route to the Albani Refuge, or reach Tagliaferri, following the Antonio Curò nature trail. In addition to the classic hikes on the Coca, Recastello, Monte Gleno and Torena, you can continue to the Coca Refuge on Trail 303, the Manina Pass (Trail 304), the Caronella Pass (Trail 308) and the Tagliaferri (Trail 321).
The sunny basin in which it stands is surely the most interesting hiking area in the entire Orobian Alps. Surrounded by peaks and lakes: there are more than 20 peaks over 2700 m, including Pizzo Recastello, Cime di Caronella, Pizzo Diavolo di Malgina and Coca, and you can admire the crystal-clear waters of the Barbellino Natural Lake and the small lakes of Valcerviera, where close encounters with marmots and chamois are not uncommon.
Ideal location for going to admire the Serio Falls, the highest in Italy.
The refuge is located at 1915m and is large and hospitable: it has 92 beds, distributed in rooms for 4-6-8-10-12 people, a bar, two dining rooms for a total of 150 seats. The menu is based on typical dishes, cheeses, cold cuts and homemade desserts, all accompanied by a careful selection of wines.
Reachable from Valbondione in 2 hours and 30 minutes by taking trail 305: after a short stretch on asphalt, take the mule track that winds through the woods. From Valbondione the trail is also accessible for two-wheelers. A little longer is the ascent from Lizzola, which makes it possible to reach the refuge in 3h by taking trail 306.
