Museum “Walls of Bergamo”

Opened in September 2024, the new museum “Walls of Bergamo” occupies the rooms on the upper floor of Porta Sant’Agostino, still one of the main entrances to the Upper Town.

The museum is part of the Museum of Histories of Bergamo network and represents a key step in enhancing the Venetian Walls, a UNESCO heritage site since 2017. Through numerous historical exhibits and multimedia points, the exhibition will show you the stages of the fortress’s development, from design to construction, taking you on a journey through time made even more exciting by the fact that you’re standing in the heart of that very fortress.
The centrepiece of the tour is the immersive room, where the history of the Walls is told through the voices of its protagonists. All around are four scenic sections expanding the knowledge of the monument within broader contexts: the territorial defensive system of the Republic of Venice, the architectural culture of the Italian Renaissance that conceived the “modern fortresses,” and the military revolution of 16th-century Europe. The final stop, equally fascinating, is dedicated to the fortress’s construction site from 1561 to 1588, brought to life by descriptive and scenic devices.

An unmissable visit within the Walls, still vibrant with life.
