The second event in the “Step by Step: Fall 2026” series features Fabio Colleoni for the evening program “Italy by Bike: The Giro d’Italia by Bicycle, Through the 20 Regional Capitals.”
The event will take place on Tuesday, October 27, at 8:45 p.m., in the “Mimmo Boninelli” Civic Hall at the “Sandro Pertini di Mozzo” Municipal Library. Admission is free while seats last.
Fabio Colleoni will speak with Andrea Guerini.
Fabio Colleoni of Ponte San Pietro is a young cyclist in his early twenties who, on his second cycling tour—his first was a Bergamo-Rome ride — has set himself the goal of cycling across the entire country, passing through all 20 regional capitals and completing a sort of “Tour of Italy” from a geographical perspective.
From Aosta to Palermo, passing through Rome and Florence, all the way to Cagliari, Fabio’s journey spanned fifty-eight days traveling up and down Italy, covering a total of about 4,500 kilometers with a cumulative elevation gain of 34,444 meters. All while carrying 40 kilograms of luggage and his bicycle. Cycling tourism as a passion, but also an experience of hard work, courage, and adaptability.
At the meeting in Mozzo, he’ll tell us all about it: the bike paths and state highways he’s cycled, the unexpected events, the nights spent in a tent, and those spent as a guest at convents or with ordinary families.
“The first few days of the trip,” he says, “ Those were definitely the most challenging weeks, filled with conflicting emotions. On the one hand, there was the desire to finish the trip, but at the same time, there were all the insecurities of tackling such a journey entirely on my own—the potential setbacks, finding places to sleep, and physical challenges. For example, during the first three weeks, I had severe knee pain and had trouble walking. But it was a pain I carried with me throughout the entire trip, and I learned to live with it. “.
