The U-ART-P aps exhibition space in Bergamo is hosting the exhibition “Through Her Lens—Images as Infrastructures of the Contemporary,” curated by Oliviero Falconi and designed by Manuela Parrino. The exhibition explores how images have become tools capable of shaping subjectivity, organizing memory, and codifying social relationships.

The event explores the evolution of the image from a simple tool of representation to a full-fledged infrastructure. The lens is used as a methodological metaphor to analyze today’s regimes of visibility, examining how photography blends with video, performance, installations, and archives.

The exhibition fosters a dialogue between the legacy of historical pioneers and the voices of subsequent generations through various thematic sections:

  • Body, Threshold, and Discontinuity of the Subject: An Analysis of the Fragmentation of the Self and Technological Tensions Through the Works of Francesca Woodman, Cao Fei, and Nona Inescu.
  • Memory, Archives, and the Construction of the Past: Letizia Battaglia’s Documentary Approach and the Post-Documentary Research of Eva Frapiccini and Yael Bartana.
  • Ecologies of Perception: The Landscape as a Relational System in the Works of Sandra Kantanen, Servane Mary, Sara Messinger, Monica Carocci, and Pamela Diamante.
  • Beyond the Medium and Politics of the Gaze: The Intermedial Evolution of Pipilotti Rist and Cosima von Bonin, and Irene Fenara’s Analysis of Surveillance Infrastructures.
