A full schedule of guided tours of the Mons. Antonietti Orphan House Museum in the heart of Clusone’s Pineta: guided tours of the museum rooms, artifacts in the permanent collection and the church dedicated to Christ the King.
The Casa dell’Orfano di Clusone was founded in 1925 by the Patronato provinciale orfani di guerra di Bergamo at the behest of Msgr. Giovanni Antonietti and was the first residential home in Italy.
Msgr. Antonietti (1892 – 1976), a priest and military chaplain in World War I, took charge of the war orphans in the province of Bergamo by making them study and providing room and board on the property.
Between 1926 and 1950 a small village was established in the heart of the Pineta di Clusone including the gatehouse with infirmary and outpatient clinic, dormitory, school, church, dedicated to Christ the King, designed by Eng. Luigi Angelini in 1929 and frescoed by Pasquale Arzuffi, Pietro Servalli and Fermo Taragni, theater and farmhouse.
At the end of World War II, Count Giacomo Suardo bequeathed to the Casa dell’Orfano antique furniture, his prestigious personal library, collection of porcelain, earthenware and majolica of Italian and foreign manufacture, and antique paintings now on display at MAT – Museo Arte Tempo.
The house is currently administered by the Foundation of the same name in collaboration with the Association of Friends and Former Students of Bishop Antonietti.
Thanks to a revitalization project, designed with the help of the Aquilone Cooperative, the Museum will have a calendar of scheduled openings with guided tours of the entire complex.
The meeting point for tour departures is at the gatehouse of the Orphan’s Home.
