A master of the Renaissance in Bergamo – and its province
Bergamo is a city where Lorenzo Lotto left a rich artistic legacy, and it is still possible today to follow in his footsteps on a fascinating itinerary.
It starts at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, where the extraordinary choir inlays, designed by Lotto and made by Capoferri, narrate biblical episodes with more than 100 wooden essences. Also in the Upper Town, at the church of San Michele al Pozzo Bianco you can admire frescoes dedicated to the Virgin, while in Borgo Pignolo there are two altarpieces with the Madonna and Saints, in the churches of San Bernardino and Santo Spirito, respectively.
In the Lower Town the works at SS Lorenzo and Bartolomeo and Sant’Alessandro in Colonna stand out. The itinerary is completed with masterpieces housed at the splendid l’Accademia Carrara.
