Unforgettable parades with the Duchy of Piazza Pontida and folk groups from around the world
Ready for the party? Somewhere between Carnival and Easter you can watch a parade of colorful floats, preceded by the traditional Rasgamènt de la Egia (Burning of the Old Woman), the puppet that embodies evil and is burned every year to defeat it.
The weekend will be full of events for you and your family, full of light-heartedness and fun.
On Saturday evening, in the picturesque setting of Matteotti Square, you can expect an extraordinary performance of folk groups, which will cheerfully celebrate the traditions of Italian regions and distant countries.
Immediately afterwards you will witness the conclusion of the tenth edition of a truly unique competition, La Ègia piö bèla (the most beautiful old woman) followed by the unfailing, cathartic Burning of the Old Woman.
On Sunday afternoon here is the parade of floats, which will generally go through the city center to Pontida Square and via Broseta. In addition to local groups, you will see delegations from many cities in northern and central Italy.
You will also be able to meet the Smiciatöt: the Duke of Pontida Square, representative of the association that has been preserving and promoting Bergamo folklore and tradition for more than 100 years.
