The play *Giuseppe*, written by Orazio Condorelli and Alessandro Miele, tells the story of a young doctor who, to escape his family routine and provincial surroundings, decides to join a space mission to Pluto. The interstellar journey becomes an attempt to find meaning in life, revealing the difficulty of letting go of one’s memories.
The play is the result of a research project by the Ultimi Fuochi Teatro group, based in Salento, focused on 20th-century authors born in small Italian towns. The play is based on the works of Giuseppe Bonaviri, an author who successfully blended the archaic and the modern, the microcosm and the macrocosm, through a body of work characterized by originality and modernity.
The creation of the show began with a series of studies conducted in Spongano, during which the audience members’ childhood memories were collected. These elements, along with Bonaviri’s texts adapted for the stage, are interspersed with video interviews filmed during the creative process.
