CAMINELLA WINERY

CAMINELLA WINERY

Description

Acquired in 1996 from the previous owners, Caminella is a winery in a villa, a magnificent example of integration between architectural beauty and functionality. Surrounded by vineyards preserved to a seemingly written destiny (the most sought-after residential area in town has risen around it) it transmits to the visitor the philosophy with which it is managed: the pursuit of quality from every point of view.

Naturally starting from that of wines, "few but good" according to the old saying, but also in terms of hospitality and image. Taking a seat in the tavern, a charming meeting place, after visiting the vineyards-garden and the cellar dug out of the majolica-sass de luna, is an experience that is already satisfying in itself. It is further strengthened by the degustation of wines, a lot of land even though it’s owned by the same company it is produced under the name "sass de luna", a typical rocky conformation that distinguishes the pedology of the area.

It is the first winery in Bergamo to have produced Pinot Noir wines (Luna Nera – Black Moon) in vintages considered to be of a superior quality. It was also the first to have successfully experimented with the short and controlled drying of cabernet sauvignon and merlot grapes to give body to the company’s top red wine (Luna Rossa – Red Moon). Powerful and at the same time an elegant representation of the quality that the blend can be obtained in this territory.

Simpler, but very appealing, the basic red, Ripa di Luna, which from the same cut of merlot and cabernet sauvignon, is vinified separately and combined at the appropriate time for further refinement in wooden barrels. The Verde Luna white wine, is made from fruit of selected chardonnay grapes vinified with the soft pressing of whole grapes. It stands out for the rich endowment of fruity aromas and the persistent flavour on the palate. Ripa di Luna Brut was born from bases of chardonnay and pinot noir (it must be vinified in white) with the long process of the classic method. It must sit on the lees for between 24 and 36 months. “L’eretico” Goccio di Sole is a sweet-passito red with an extraordinary personality. It comes instead from Moscato di Scanzo grapes, harvested late and placed in the fruit drying cellar for about 40 days.
