The commission for the work was awarded to Count Giovan Battista Suardi, who chose to decorate the chapel to protect his family from a flood predicted by an astrologer. <\/p>\n<p>The artist, who stayed at the count&#8217;s villa, imbued the building&#8217;s walls with imagery rich in sacred, esoteric, and alchemical symbolism. The decorations include scenes from the martyrdom of Saint Barbara and Saint Bridget, combined with details of daily life and symbolic elements related to the defense of the faith against the influences of Protestantism. <\/p>\n<p>The interior stands out for its rustic design, featuring exposed wooden beams and ceilings decorated with intertwined vine branches.
