Like every year, the Bergamasque event celebrates some noteworthy birthdays. Prominent among them are the centenary of the Bugatti Type 40, both because of the particularity of the model and because the French cars are a constant presence on the Circuito delle Mura; in addition, the occasion will also be a tribute to Bergamo driver Giulio Foresti, who raced for the French manufacturer at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s. And then the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 935, an authentic icon of the Stuttgart manufacturer that remains a reference point in the racing world, not only for its performance but for its design approach, in its extreme interpretation of the rules, sometimes even pushing the limits, in order to continuously improve. <\/p>\n
In this 22nd edition an important space will be dedicated to the memory of Sandro Munari, who passed away last February 28, with the significant presence of a car that has a particular relevance in the career of the “Drago” and in the sporting development of the model: the Lancia Fulvia HF 1.4 Proto present in Bergamo, in fact marks the first international victory of Sandro Munari, at the 1967 Tour de Corse in tandem with Luciano Lombardini, and of the Fulvia. Among the many other prominent cars that have already confirmed their presence in the Upper Town, a fantastic pair of Ferrari 512 BBs that will serve as pace cars for the heats dedicated to the Anteguerra\/GP, while the Turismo GT\/GTS will be “accompanied” by prominent Mercedes models. <\/p>\n
The format of the event, which has been able to win increasing prestige even at the international level, confirmed every year by a large number of participants from European nations and beyond, as per tradition includes four heats – each of 30 minutes – for historic cars, divided into the categories Anteguerra\/GP and GTS\/Sport in addition to Turismo road cars, and two heats dedicated to historic motorcycles. All concentrated in the afternoon, from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Igniting the spectacle even more will be the start of the heats of the covered-wheel cars, with the start in “old style” Le Mans mode, which will see the drivers lined up on the affixed side of the asphalt ribbon running toward the cars lined up in a herringbone pattern to take off. However, as early as the morning the participating cars and motorcycles will be on display in the Open Hill area, so thanks to free access the public will be able to admire up close authentic four- and two-wheeled jewels that trace a century of domestic and foreign two- and four-wheeled motor industry history. Cars and motorcycles that will be in action in the afternoon on the 2,980-meter Circuito delle Mura, which the legendary Tazio Nuvolari, winner with the Alfa Romeo P3 of the only edition of the Bergamo GP in 1935, called “sublime.” <\/p>\n
