The exhibition, designed to accompany the public toward the opening of the Gallery’s future headquarters, presents the museum collections from a different perspective than what was investigated by the cycle “The Impermanent Collection,” the research, exhibition and workshop platform under which from 2018 to 2023 GAMeC presented a series of temporary exhibitions with the aim of soliciting reflection on the dynamic character of its Collections.<\/p>\n
In fact, Una Galleria, Tante Collezioni intends to bring out the differences between the multiple nuclei that make up the museum collections, placing in dialogue, without following a chronological succession, works by masters of the Italian and international twentieth century with works by contemporary artists, in a path that winds its way through the nine exhibition rooms.<\/p>\n
Nuclei that intrinsically manifest a variety of languages, styles, currents and perspectives that are often distant from each other, while revealing traits of their origin: the taste of collectors, their visions on the past or the contemporary, the research of authors who have been told by temporary exhibitions, or even the initiatives promoting the work of artists and curators carried out by the institution.<\/p>\n
The exhibition design, curated by Maurizio Bosa, translates into spatial and morphological metaphor the dynamic idea of “putting on display” what is preserved in the Gallery’s storerooms. The structures, made of deliberately untreated light-colored wood, consist of shelves on which the works rest and slide, and of bases and supports that, simulating open boxes, provide unprecedented perspectives from which to observe the works on display. <\/p>\n
Also, a selection of donations from artists and collectors of the new millennium, also including works that have become part of the museum’s holdings thanks to important funds and awards: the Lorenzo Bonaldi Prize for Art – EnterPrize, an international award that GAMeC has been dedicating to curators under 30 since 2003; the Meru Art*Science Award, which for more than a decade has supported the research of artists investigating the link between art and science; the Club GAMeC Prize, conceived in 2016 by the Friends of the Gallery association, which rewards the work of young Italian artists; and the Fund named after collector Arturo Toffetti, which has made possible the creation of important solo shows dedicated to contemporary artists.<\/p>\n
Also on display will be works that have entered the Collections as part of the projects that GAMeC has developed in recent years thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture’s General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity such as Italian Council, the program for the international promotion of Italian art, and PAC – Plan for Contemporary Art, which allocates funding aimed at increasing Italian public collections.<\/p>\n
“Una Galleria, Tante Collezioni” constitutes a valuable opportunity to rethink the institution and further strengthen the roots that bind GAMeC to its territory, always keeping the dialogue between the museum and the community active and continuing to work on the enrichment of the public heritage, especially in view of the move to the new location.<\/p>\n","price":"
