The Church of San Lorenzo is located in Ghisalba, a town on the Bergamo plain 18 km from Bergamo, set along the banks of the Serio River.<\/p>\n
The church is a small jewel that, in appearance, closely resembles the famous Pantheon in Rome.<\/p>\n
It was designed by architect Luigi Cagnola, the same who built the Arch of Peace in Milan.
\nThe building is of pure neoclassical style; finished and opened in 1834. <\/p>\n
The present temple stands on the area once occupied by a church erected in the late 5th century on the ruins of a pagan temple dedicated to Jupiter.<\/p>\n
The entrance to the temple is preceded by a portico with 14 columns.
\nOnce through the large doorway, one finds oneself in a very impressive circular room with a beam of light in the center of the church, raining down from the dome, and plays of light and shadow created by the glow of the 12 large windows. <\/p>\n
