In the heart of Gandino’s historic center, on Emancipation Street, the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta is one of Bergamo’s most important architectural monuments. <\/span><\/p>\n Built in the 15th century to meet the needs of the constantly growing population, it was renovated in the early 17th century. The exterior is an interplay of volumes finished with local stump and highlighted in their geometric form by pilasters and stone borders. The interior incorporates elements from the Venetian area, the Central European area (the onion-shaped dome of the bell tower is an example) and the Lombard area. Adjacent to the Basilica, there is the museum that collects numerous works of art and sacred objects related to the history of the building.<\/span><\/p>\n \nThe basilica was consecrated in 1654 and dedicated to St. Mary of the Assumption. <\/span><\/p>\n
\nMajestic are the large Lombard tiburium and the tall hexagonal bell tower with onion dome. <\/span><\/p>\n
\nThere are numerous works of art housed in the Basilica, for example, the most important painting cycle of a religious nature by Giacomo Ceruti, consisting of 40 canvases and frescoes, is preserved here. <\/span><\/p>\n
