The Shrine of Our Lady of the Tower is considered one of the oldest, as well as one of the most beautiful, in the diocese of Bergamo.<\/p>\n
Its origin is said to be due to Emperor Charlemagne<\/strong> in the year 801. The high altar, made of polychrome marble, modeled and decorated in inlay by Fantoni<\/strong>, is surmounted in the center by the small tribune with the fresco depicting the Madonna.<\/p>\n The numerous votive offerings, many of which carpet the walls of the Angel Chapel<\/strong> on the way to the shrine, prove the trust that local believers have placed in their Madonna for centuries.<\/p>\n The same confidence that inspired the oldest Marian prayer<\/strong>, still among the most beautiful and singularly attuned to the expectations of those who flock to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Tower: ‘Under your protection we seek refuge, holy Mother of God; do not despise the supplications of us who are in trial, but deliver us from all dangers, O glorious and blessed
