A TRIP TO CALCIO, THE TOWN WITH PAINTED WALLS

A TRIP TO CALCIO, THE TOWN WITH PAINTED WALLS

Description

If you like art and are passionate about local history and traditions, we recommend a visit to the "painted village" of Calcio, located on the banks of the Oglio river, in the plains south-east of Bergamo.

What you will do:

- You will discover the numerous frescoes, murals and mosaics that adorn monuments, buildings and houses in the Calcio area.

- You will fully understand the traditions, the deep religiosity and the hard work that characterises the Calcio community.

What awaits you:

- A guided tour of 47 works, (created between 1995 and 2003 by local and international artists) frescoes, mosaics, acrylic, paint and oil paintings that will reveal the fascinating history of the Calcio area, its economy and its anecdotes.

- You will discover the variety of artists’ styles and training who participated in the "painted town" project carried out in Calcio. Some artists are of national calibre (Repossi, Longaretti, Migliaccio), others international, such as students of various European Fine Arts Academies, coordinated by their teachers (Barcelona, Birmingham and Vienna to name a few).

USEFUL INFORMATION

The painted walls that adorn the whole of the Calcio area can always be visited independently, however a more complete experience with the accompaniment of a professional guide, available for special events, such as open Castles Days, is certainly recommended.

Alternatively, on request, if you reach a group of at least ten people, you can organise a guided tour on other days.

To request guided tours, you can send an email to prolococalciana@gmail.com or to the email of the Municipality of Calcio info@comune.calcio.bg.it.
