TIZIANO AND CARAVAGGIO in PETERZANO

TIZIANO AND CARAVAGGIO in PETERZANO

Description

A talented painter and artist, Peterzano comes out from behind the shadow of the famous Tiziano and Caravaggio, to be given the recognition he deserves.

Starting from 6th February, Simone Peterzano will be at the centre of the Accademia Carrara’s main event in 2020, a world first to rediscover his art.

From a Bergamasco family, perhaps born in Venice, the artist worked mainly in northern Italy. He distinguished himself through his mastery of Venetian colour and for the Lombard attention to naturalism. The exhibition will compare him to the greats of his time - Tiziano, his master, and Caravaggio, his student, but also Tintoretto and Veronese - to reveal innovations, mixtures and legacies in the European art scene of the sixteenth century.

Before the inauguration, an innovative roadshow in eight stages will present the exhibition through the words of the curator Paolo Plebani. The first stop will be the Church of San Bernardino in Caravaggio (24th October 2019), followed by other cities in the province of Bergamo, including Clusone, San Pellegrino and Sarnico.
