MORONI. FROM ACCADEMIA CARRARA TO GANDINO

After more than two centuries, The Entombment, a painting by Giovan Battista Moroni, returns to where it was created, the widespread museum inaugurates "Moroni in ValSeriana".

 

The work, created in 1566 for the now destroyed church of Santa Maria ad Ruviales, left Gandino in 1798 and returns this year. Currently housed in one of the rooms of the Accademia Carrara, we will be able to admire it throughout the summer in the Palazzo del Vicario’s Salone della Valle, in Gandino.

It’s the central initiative of a rich program of events, thematic itineraries and guided tours dedicated to the Renaissance artist: it is the Summer of Moroni.

The Moronian focus will be held from 4th July to 13th October. In addition to the Entombment in the Salone della Valle, the exhibition focus involves the monumental complex of the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta and the Basilica Museum, the fifteenth-century terracotta “Lamentation” kept in the Church of San Giuseppe, two large paintings inspired by Moroni in the Church of Santa Croce and the place where in ancient times the Entombment was kept, that is the Convent of the Franciscans, of which part of the cloister and the chapter house remain.

This exhibition dedicated to Moroni, inaugurates the widespread museum "Moroni in ValSeriana". An itinerary through the places and works of the artist that starts from Ranica and reaches Fino del Monte passing by Villa di Serio, Nembro, Albino, Fiorano al Serio, Oneta and Parre.

In some places, there are still works by Moroni, placed in their original context. They are works of sacred subject, thirteen between altarpieces, polyptychs and banners.

The widespread museum dedicated to Moroni, can be discovered independently thanks to the special pink and black signs or with the "Tour in Rosa" signs, guided itineraries with shuttle service.
