MUSEUM OF MINING ILLUMINATION – SCHILPARIO

MUSEUM OF MINING ILLUMINATION – SCHILPARIO

Description

On the 19th May 2018, a new exhibition space was opened in Schilpario. A space that has created a very special and unique exhibition not only at a national but also at a European level.

The Museum of Mining Illumination was the missing piece from the already rich cultural exhibition that the Ski Mine company offers to thousands of visitors. It includes the opportunity to take guided tours of the Gaffione mine tunnels.

Light thus finds space and becomes the protagonist of the underground world of mines. Allowing those who want to know more, to observe every detail of the historic systems used to illuminate the tunnels.

The Museum of Mining Illumination has an area of over 250m2 and is home to over 2000 pieces.

These are mainly mining lamps working with carbide, gasoline or electricity, lanterns and oil lamps. There are also other objects such as helmets able to guarantee a minimum of safety, vintage carts and telephones with which you could also use to communicate underground...

The structure is able to offer dedicated workshops aimed not just at school groups, real lessons in local geology, themed itineraries in historical lighting or important concepts related to processing techniques and metal casting methods.

To complete the learning journey there is an unmissable opportunity. Enter into the darkness of the mining tunnels at Schilpario’s Eng. Andrea Bonicelli Mining Park, with guaranteed safety offered by the guided tour service.

Visiting the Museum of Mining Illumination one can therefore understand how human ingenuity has made a virtue of necessity, succeeding in making even a tunnel less dark...
