OROBIE BERGAMASCHE PARK

OROBIE BERGAMASCHE PARK

Description

The Orobie Bergamasche Park is certainly one of the largest protected natural areas in Lombardy. Peaks above 3000m high, extensive valleys and surprising and pristine scenery will leave you breathless. Extensive forests and meadows create a rich mosaic of habitats that are home to species of flora and fauna protected by the European Union due to their high naturalistic value. This is the reason that the Orobie Bergamasche Park is known as one of the places in Europe with higher biodiversity.

It is divided into two areas: the northern part and the southern part. To the north, the highest peaks that stand out are the Pizzo Coca and the Pizzo Redorta, while in the south there are the Aralalta and the Presolana.

A particularity of this park is its wealth of water. The valleys are crossed by the Brembo, Serio and Dezzo rivers, which cross the Brembana, Seriana and Scalve Valleys respectively. Between the Seriana and Brembana Valleys there are around one hundred alpine lakes with crystal clear water and numerous waterfalls, some spectacular and impressive. Above all the Serio Waterfalls stand out, they are the highest in Italy and the second highest in Europe. From the Piano del Barbellino the waterfalls make three successive jumps, descending from a height of 315m. During the openings scheduled during the summer, you can watch a unique show, about 10000 cubic metres of water fall into a mountain amphitheatre.
