Atalanta has been a source of pride for many Bergamasco people, since 1907, the year of its birth.
The Gewiss stadium located in the heart of Bergamo is the most spacious and modern sports centre in the city and is a great source of pride for its inhabitants.
The construction of the football stadium dates back to the end of 1927 on the area of the then existing Borgo Santa Caterina hippodrome. The playing field measured 120 metres by 70 and was surrounded by an ash athletic track. It featured two grandstands, one uncovered and one covered and had a maximum capacity of 12,000 seats.
Over the years the stadium has undergone several major renovations, the latest of which are very recent. Various improvements were made in 2015, including the complete renovation of the Central grandstand, the renewal of the Creberg grandstand, the removal of the barriers between the Central grandstand and the pitch and the construction of a new area for about 400 spectators. At the end of April 2017, the municipality of Bergamo published a notice of alienation with which it would sell the entire sports facility through public auction. It was awarded shortly after to Stadio Atalanta S.r.l. At the end of April 2019, work began on the demolition and complete reconstruction of the “Curva Pisani”. Following the partnership between Atalanta and Gewiss, the stadium has been called Gewiss Stadium since 1st July 2019. Finally, on 6th October 2019, we witnessed the inauguration of the “Curva Nord” with 9,121 seats. The current capacity of the new stadium is 21,300.
