Perello Shrine

Description

Traditionally, the Virgin appears to the humblest ones, and this event makes no exception: in fact, a farmer from the small village of Sambusita, in Serina Valley, witnessed the miracle.

The Virgin asked him to build a church and performed a miracle to show the exact place where she wanted it to be: she made an olive twig sprouting from a beech branch. The event became so popular that the people built three churches over one hundred years! Just like a coffer, the first chapel houses the reliquary with the beech branch with the olive tree twig, hidden by a marble slab underneath the altar. The second church was almost totally destroyed and is currently a place of passage between the chapel and the third church, called “superior”, which is the one that is currently hosting the believers.
