The majestic façade of San Pellegrino Casino features two high towers decorated with a wrought iron flagpole, high-reliefs at both sides of the main door, a painted ornamental frieze depicting some flying stags and refined stuccos.
Once you stepped inside, you will be amazed by the beauty of the lobby, with eight big columns in Verona red marble leading to the imposing staircase. At both sides of the entrance there are two wide rooms featuring fine wooden ceilings with gold and bronze decorations. A wide picture window embellishes the ceiling, too, surrounded by the frescos representing the twelve months of the year. Mosaics, colourful windows, wrought iron decorations, crystal chandeliers, bronze and marble sculptures and precious frescoes create the timeless elegance of this remarkable palace.
The Casino was built over just two years, between 1904 and 1906, and was inaugurated in 1907 as a continuation of the Spa arcades. It is considered as one of the best examples of Lombard “Liberty” style, the Italian Art Nouveau and immediately became very popular among the wealthy middle class looking for fun and leisure. The Casino closed for the first time in 1926 and opened back for just a few time in 1946.
At the first floor you will find the “Party Hall”, all covered in wooden panels and decorated with abundant floral pattern, very popular in Liberty Style.
The recent renovation of San Pellegrino Casino is part of an urban redevelopment project and tourist revival of San Pellegrino town, which also involves the Thermal Baths and the Grand Hotel. The goal is to make the most of the wonderful Art Nouveau buildings, a precious testimony of our architecture.
