The ferry is reputed to have been designed by Leonardo Da Vinci in person. The entire structure is fixed to an overhead cable, so while you’re on-board the sensation of rippling over the water is extremely pleasant.
It is the only operating reaction ferry in Italy: one person adjusts the mechanism based on the river’s current, managing to carry one hundred people and five cars!
Besides, there are other peculiar characteristics: in fact, the river crossing also let the passengers enjoy a lovely view of the Adda’s riversides.

With the appropriate changes and maintenances, the ferry has been operating for more than four centuries, connecting the Imbersago pier (in Lecco’s province) with Villa D’Adda, on the Bergamo side.
Once you have landed on the opposite side, have a walk across the luxuriant nature of the riverbank. It’s the perfect place to take a break, enjoying some fresh air and the sound of the river flow: you can chose whether to go on to the village of Brivio or to Paderno, up to one of the picnic areas and restaurants.
Near the landing stage, on the Villa D’Adda side, an itinerary leading to the Alberone Oasis starts. Here, walking along special boardwalks, you will have the opportunity to get in touch with the local avian wildlife, especially swans, coots and mallards: it’s the best way to conclude your visit to the Parco Adda Nord natural park.
By the pier you can still see the sign with the historical price list dating back to 1604, July 20th, established by Milan’s Senate. Back in the days, people, goods and livestock used to be carried by the ferry.
