In the heart of the Orobie, in an area full of artificial and natural lakes, Curò is certainly one of the most popular refuges in our mountains.
A favourite destination for mountaineers interested in rock climbing, it is a key point on the Orobie Trail: from here you can continue the high way to get to the Albani Refuge, or reach the Tagliaferri Refuge, following the Antonio Curò naturalistic route. In addition to the classic excursions to Coca, Recastello, Monte Gleno and Torena, you can continue to the Coca mountain refuge on path 303, to the Manina Pass (path 304), Caronella Pass (path 308) and Tagliaferri (path 321).
The sunken basin in which it stands is certainly the most interesting hiking area of all the Orobie Alps. Surrounded by peaks and lakes: there are over 20 peaks over 2700m, including Pizzo Recastello, Cime di Caronella, Pizzo Diavolo di Malgina and Coca and you can admire the crystal clear waters of the Barbellino Lake and the ponds in Valcerviera, where it is not rare to have a close encounter with marmots and chamois.
Ideal position to go and admire the Serio waterfalls, the highest in Italy.
The refuge is located at 1915m and is large and hospitable: it has 92 beds, distributed in rooms of 4-6-8-10-12 people, a bar and two dining rooms with a total of 150 seats. The menu is based on typical dishes, cheeses, meats and homemade desserts, all accompanied by a careful selection of wines.
Reachable from Valbondione in 2 hours and 30 minutes along path 305: after a short stretch on asphalt, take the mule track that winds through the woods. From Valbondione the route is also accessible for those who want to arrive on two wheels. From Lizzola the climb is a little longer, allowing you to get to the refuge in 3 hours along path 306.
