The Castagneta district is located along an old road leading to the Brembana Valley and the Canton of Grigioni (CH), which ran parallel to the Vasi aqueduct.
Castagneta belonged to the Corpi Santi, the administrative perimeter that wrapped around the city for a few miles . The name recalls the chestnut trees scattered in the Bergamo hills, around the eighteenth-century church dedicated to San Rocco.
