Pumenengo and Pagazzano castles

Pumenengo and Pagazzano castles

Description

The sight of this imposing castle, also called “Barbò Castle” after one of its owners, could surprise you. In fact, it doesn’t have the classic rectangular plan with a tower at each corner.

Standing in a strategic position overlooking the Pallavicino Canal and the Oglio River, it resembles the shape of the territory, featuring a trapezoidal structure. Only two of the original towers survived.

In fact, the castle has been turned into a quiet aristocratic residence at the end of the belligerence periods, when Northern Italy was divided into numerous States fighting each other all over the flatland.

Pumenengo Castle may not be as much decorated as the most famous strongholds of this land, but it is just as interesting, indeed!
