Piazza Mercato del Fieno

Piazza Mercato del Fieno

Description

This large square, which leads north to the former Convento di S. Francesco, was restructured at the end of the 1800s to its present size, as part of a general urban improvement of the poor conditions of the town.
A second and more intense restructuring took place between the 1930s and 1960s, when buildings were demolished, the square was enlarged, roads were improved and restorations were made. There are two impressive tall, narrow, medieval houses still standing,
referred to as “tower houses” overlooking the square.
