Fontana di S. Agata

Fontana di S. Agata

Description

Saint Agatha Fountain is a clear example of urban positioning reserved to fountains during the Middle Ages. They were aligned with the buildings along the roads and placed under stone archways. At the back of each fountain there was a tank with a door for inspections and cleaning.

This fountain, built in the XIII century, was fed by the Magistrale aqueduct, which collected the waters of the Vasi and Sudorno aqueducts. During the renovation works in 2009, the remains of a mosaic belonging to a Roman house dating back to the I century A.D. were found.
