S. Michele al Pozzo Bianco fountain

S. Michele al Pozzo Bianco fountain

Description

The profile of the arcade reveals the neoclassical style of the 1800s. However, the stone covering hides a more ancient architectural structure, that is, the typically medieval rear water collection chamber. The water that fed the fountain derived from the aqueduct of Prato Baglioni, which fed also the nearby fountain in via Osmano.

Going along via Porta Dipinta towards the church of Saint Michele, just a few meters from the fountain, there is a circular manhole which indicates the position of the ancient Pozzo Bianco, so called because it was built with the local marble coming from the quarries of Zandobbio.
