Fal'Fil Museum and "Once upon a time" collection at Palazzo Suardi Re Meris

Fal'Fil Museum and "Once upon a time" collection at Palazzo Suardi Re Meris

Description

The Fal'Fil Museum is located in Palazzo Suardi Re Meris in the historic heart of Ranzanico, overlooking Lake Endine.

The area was on the paths of the silk routes already in ancient times and the fulcrum of museum exhibitions is precisely the heritage - cultural and material - linked to the spinning of this wonderful fabric. On the ground and first floors you will discover how silk is created, thanks to the explanations of the methods used to work it and to the presence of original machinery from the period 1700-1900. One room is entirely dedicated to the results of the processing, the precious yarns and fabrics that the Cavallina Valley exported to the rest of the peninsula and the world. A curiosity not to be missed is the collection of silkworms from all corners of the world. The high craftsmanship of spinning is contextualised through a collection of vintage photographs.

On the top floor of the building there is also the "Once upon a time" collection, a permanent exhibition of relics and period clothing of the local population, curated by the Art in the Valley Association.

The museum itinerary is framed by Palazzo Suardi, recently returned to its original splendour by a careful restoration. The version that we can admire today is the nineteenth-century one, the period from which the sandstone colonnade dates back, behind which the eighteenth-century architecture is hidden. Among stone fireplaces, frescoed rooms and Liberty-style decorations, a tour of the house integrates and undoubtedly enriches the visit to the museum.

The Palazzo is surrounded by a vast orchard-garden with terraces sloping down to the hillside. The beauty of the Cavallina Valley extends all around, with the lake and the slopes of the mountains.

It is possible to visit the museum accompanied by a guide, by reservation only, during the scheduled openings (usually the first and third Sunday of each month).

Duration of the visit: about 50 minutes.

Free access for exhibitions and events. Structure accessible to the disabled.

The closest parking is in Piazza Caduti.
