TukCult Tour amid art and culture
2-hour private tour with guide: the best way to visit the most interesting artistic and cultural places in Bergamo, moving between the Upper and Lower Towns aboard an original and fun electric TukTuk.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Bergamo is known for being two cities in one: between its historic centre (the Upper Town), and the Lower Town, there are historical and artistic buildings of great importance.
On board a TukTuk, accompanied by a guide, this tour shows you how over the centuries culture has moved from noble palazzi and private collections to places accessible to the public, such as art galleries, theatres, museums and schools.
The journey will pass by the Donizetti Theatre, the Accademia Carrara and the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art (GAMeC), with their masterpieces that tell six centuries of art history. You will then move towards the centre of the modern city and from here towards Porta Sant'Agostino, which takes its name from the nearby church and convent, now home to the University of Bergamo.
Walking along the most intact stretch of the sixteenth-century Venetian Walls, you will reach the western entrance of the Upper Town. This is where the Citadel stands, home to important civic museums.
Through the streets less travelled by tourists you will reach the beating heart of the city: the area of Piazza Duomo and Piazza Vecchia. Jewels of inestimable historical and artistic value are kept in the religious and civil buildings that overlook it: the Cathedral of Sant'Alessandro, the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Colleoni Chapel, Palazzo della Ragione and Palazzo Nuovo. A concentration of works of art that few other cities in the world can boast.
At the end of the visit you will return to the Lower Town along the Viale delle Mura, from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the plain, and via Pignolo, the Via Maestra access to the city in Venetian times.
