Accademia Carrara
The most refined art is right here

The treasure of the Accademia Carrara picture gallery come back to shine after seven years. This journey across history of art is going to leave you speechless. What are we referring to? Four great collectors and 214 donors, for a patrimony of 15.864 pieces, of which 613 are displayed in the brand new museum set-up.

The Accademia Carrara picture gallery stands out for the high level of its heritage: in fact, it is considered one of the most refined art and portrait galleries in Europe, a true museum of Italian collecting. For this patrimony we must thank the passion of Giacomo Carrara, who made his own collection available for the public in 1796. After him, also Guglielmo Lochis, Giovanni Morelli, Federico Zeri and many others more enriched the museum across the years.

Let’s travel across Italian history of art, from the early XV Century to the late XIX: along with the famous paintings by Pisanello, Mantegna, Bellini, Botticelli, Raphael and Titian, Masters of the Renaissance, also the masterpieces by Lorenzo Lotto and Fra’ Galgario, besides the sculptures collection of Federico Zeri.
The Accademia Carrara opened back to the public on April 23rd 2015, with a brand new museum layout: an exhibition route on two levels, for a total of 28 rooms. 130 restored paintings got finally back their original splendour.
Lots of spaces and opportunities to analyse art, both for adults and for children.
Museum shop, video room, smart guides, free Wi-Fi, guided tours.
